Protective + encouraging, onyx is said to evoke feelings of strength and will. It's said to aide focus and stamina, as well as helping to stick to ones goals and resolutions, and would therefore be a wonderful companion for those undergoing mammoth or lengthy tasks.
Although this crystal is commonly sold as onyx (eg green onyx, blue onyx, etc), it's actually banded calcite - onyx is just a trade name.
